Day 1:
I have arrived in Miami for rather long delay (10 hours to be exact) with a bad case of allergies (sniffling and sneezing on a full 5:15 a.m. flight does not make your fellow traveler think fondly of you - did I mention it is spring break and many school age children were on-board the plane this morning). None the less, I have safely arrived in Miami and am in the process of fending off whatever it is that it ailing me. I don't take medication often, and I am quite sure that my SYSTEM is FREAKING OUT from the overload of medications which I am ingesting. I am taking many medications to overcome this little attack (have posted photos of my little medicine bag and am taking them at every possible time interval). I found a little restaurant in Miami called Tequileria and am contemplating a shot of tequila to assist with the attack. Wait, it is only 9:35 in the morning, so I think I will hold off on that option.

There was little time for sleep last night. Between taking care of last minute details around the house, packing and the unexpected arrival of a bad case of sneezing. I am not exactly sure I got any sleep. I laid down for a bit, however, I woke often with my mind filled with thoughts of this and that... Of course, there is the part of this trip that I know will be fulfilling. There is also a part of this trip that I know will be hard to see. The poor conditions for the women, men and children of Nicaragua. I know that during our time here, we will only touch a small number of people, but I believe you have to start somewhere. And, I am reminding myself that when this team of people leaves on Friday, we will leave a new school, library and vaccines. We will also leave with friendships that once did not exist. For me personally, I believe that my ideas of the world will be transformed as I embark upon this journey in Nicaragua. I think I will get more from this experience than I am possibly able to give (for it is in giving that we receive).
I have decided against that shot of tequila and am off to explore and trek around Miami for the day. I will board the plane to Nicaragua at 7:00 tonight. I will be taking photos and will try and post again tonight.
In my initial blog, I mentioned that my life fell apart a few years ago. It was during that time that I made the decision to stop focusing on the material things of the world and to start living my life and seeking and searching for opportunities to grow and evolve. I believe this will be the first of many "experiences" for me.
A special hello to my little buddy Dylan Wilford. Dylan called me last night to say hello and wanted to learn more details about this trip ( you know... like who exactly would be staying at the hotel where I was staying in Nicaragua). Dylan is the most inquisitive little guy whom I have met and I always silently hope that I have an answer to the question(s) he is preparing to pose (I see this kid as an attorney someday). Dylan - I will post the response to your questions later tonight.
I leave you with the following quote from Mother Teresa:
"If you can't feed a hundred people, then just feed one.
my love to you if you are reading this..
peace, brandi J.
I pray that your sniffles will be healed, and that the next leg of your journey will include much needed rest. It sounds like you have a clear vision of what is ahead of you, just hold onto these thoughts once you get there and you will be just fine.
